Now is the time of year for maintenance in parks and gardens throughout the Northern hemisphere.
“All trees take root on Saint Catherine’s Day” is traditionally said by gardeners because the period around November 25th is the time when the least sap flows in plants. The pre-winter break is ideal for planting, replanting, and caring for plants. The heat is finally over and, as a general rule, temperatures haven’t dropped to freezing yet. And the cool weather allows plants to get their new roots ready.
For trees planted in boxes, it is also a good time to check up on the condition of the roots and increase the size of the orange-tree boxes, if need be. Thanks to the removable panels of our Jardins du Roi Soleil orange-tree planter boxes, it is very easy to care for the root ball. Don’t forget to monitor the drainage bed and soil quality to ensure the plant’s sap starts flowing properly again: it’s an essential step!
As for maintaining the actual boxes, the removable French oak panels make repainting and upkeep easy – without removing the plants – simply by sliding the panels out in opposite pairs. This operation should be done when the plants are being overwintered.
It is also the perfect time to place orders with us for the upcoming spring season, in particular for your made-to-measure projects. Jardins du Roi Soleil is an expert at designing and developing models adapted to your plants – both in shape and size – with unrivalled know-how and quality, every time. For example, just look at this octagonal planter, measuring two metres in diameter, that we designed and delivered to a hotel in England for a magnificent olive tree. This picture of the cast-iron structure is sure to give you some great ideas…
